A Guide to Quartz Countertop Care

If you’ve chosen quartz countertops for your kitchen, you may have noticed how durable they are. Quartz is an incredibly strong countertop choice that is easy to maintain compared to natural stone options like marble and granite. Although quartz typically comes with a warranty and holds up well to normal wear and tear, there are a few things to keep in mind while cleaning and using them.

So, if you are looking to extend the longevity of your quartz countertops, take a few tips from our guide below!

#1 Clean with Soft Rag or Sponge

Just because quartz countertops are strong, it doesn’t mean you need test its’ strength. While cleaning your countertops be sure to use a soft rag or non-abrasive sponge. This will help keep surface scratches to a minimum and the shine of the countertop in tact.

#2 Use Mild Cleaning Products

When cleaning your countertops routinely, make sure you are using mild detergents, degreasers and cleaners. This again is another way to ensure your countertops stay in tip top shape. Avoid harsh and acidic cleaners like bleach or drain cleaners. These items are not countertop friendly and will having an impact overtime.

#3 Be Mindful of Hot Household Items

Quartz can typically resist temperatures up to 300°, but it is always smart to place pot holders down while cooking. The quick jump in temperature can cause your quartz countertops to go into thermal shock. This shock can lead to damages such as color change or cracks in the countertop surface.

#4 Avoid Cutting on Surface

Sometimes it is easier to work on your countertop surface rather than grabbing a cutting board, but it should be avoided. The sharp metal of a knife blade can have lasting affects on your quartz surface. Do yourself and your countertops a favor by grabbing a cutting board to chop on.

#5 Clean Up Spills Quickly

Stain resistant qualities will depend on the quartz brand you chose, however it is important to remember to clean up spills quickly. Although quartz is a non-porus material, it can still acquire stains from items such as wine, coffee or tea.
